Dr. David Bennett
Dr. David Bennett is a theologian, speaker, and bestselling author passionate about renewing the Church’s witness through thoughtful engagement with today’s ethical, philosophical, and theological questions. He is the author of A War of Loves (Zondervan, 2018) and is currently writing Beyond Compromise: Reclaiming a Biblical Vision of Love, Sexuality, and the Kingdom of God with Tyndale House Publishers. His work explores themes of love, desire, sexuality, holiness, and discipleship, offering a compelling vision of biblical faithfulness in a contemporary world.
Dr. Bennett completed his DPhil in theology at University of Oxford and now serves as a postdoctoral research fellow in the Faculty of Theology and Religion, as well as an Associate Research Fellow at Wycliffe Hall. His doctoral thesis, Queering the Queer in Contemporary Theology: An Augustinian Ethics of Desire and Gay Celibacy, is being published as a monograph with T&T Clark/Bloomsbury. His academic work focuses on the Trinity, Christian ethics, Scripture (especially the Pauline letters), Augustine, critical theologies, and contemporary Anglican theology, with particular attention to the role of desire in knowing God.
Originally from Sydney, Australia, Dr. Bennett moved from atheistic gay activism to Christian faith after a profound encounter with Jesus, a journey he recounts in A War of Loves. He speaks internationally in churches, universities, and media contexts, including appearances with BBC platforms and other global outlets. As a gay celibate Christian and member of the Archbishop of Canterbury’s College of Evangelists, he is committed to equipping the Church to love LGBTQI+ and minority communities with conviction, compassion, and solidarity.
