Olive Crest & Foster Care Support

“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”

— James 1:27

Vintage is growing its partnership with Olive Crest to support vulnerable children and families in, and at risk of entering, LA’s foster care system.

The Need in LA

Los Angeles County's foster care system serves approximately 28,000 children, representing over a third of all California foster children. In fact, the foster care system in LA is the largest of any city in the US. The significant size of the system creates a high demand for foster homes and places a huge strain on resources for children in care.

Already, youth in foster care face significant challenges, including a higher likelihood of homelessness or incarceration after aging out of care when the proper support isn’t in place. Tragically, as many as 60% of all child sex trafficking victims have a history in the child welfare system.

If you have a heart for the homeless, the trafficked, the impoverished, the orphan, the abused, the incarcerated - you may have a heart for children in foster care.

Our Partner - Olive Crest

This is where Olive Crest beautifully steps in! Driven by their vision to see ‘a strong family for every child’, they are dedicated to preventing child abuse (including neglect) by ‘strengthening, equipping, and restoring children and families in crisis…One Life at a Time’.

How You Can Get Involved

In addition to training up volunteer mentors for youth at risk, Olive Crest supports families and individuals to open their homes to those in need in two ways:

  1. As a foster family (medium to long-term commitment)

  2. As a host family (short-term commitment)

Sometimes the challenge seems insurmountable against our limited time and resources. We don’t necessarily feel equipped to jump straight to fostering or adopting. Fortunately, Olive Crest has a number of opt-in opportunities to get involved, from volunteering as a mentor, to hosting or babysitting children overnight so their parent can attend a critical job interview, for example.

At Vintage, we’re looking to form Care teams to support foster & host families at Vintage and in our local community - surrounding those who are ready to open their homes with love, practical support, and prayer!
