Social Transformation Intern

The Social Transformation Intern supports the Director of Social Transformation in equipping Vintage to live out our faith through tangible love for our neighbors. This role focuses on mobilizing and developing volunteers and volunteer leaders, strengthening strategic local partnerships, and supporting outreach initiatives from planning through execution.

The intern will provide administrative, communication, and relational support to deepen partnerships in the South Bay, advance new and existing ministry initiatives, and help build sustainable systems for care within our church community—particularly in responding thoughtfully and consistently to those experiencing housing instability.

This role also contributes to the exploration of potential global mission partnerships, helping Vintage grow in faithful, relational, and long-term engagement both locally and globally.

Responsibilities

  • Manage volunteer recruitment, communication, and related administration for weekly Outreach Dinners in partnership with the Salvation Army, as well as quarterly Serve Days with our other partners (e.g. Compton Initiative and Habitat for Humanity)

Strengthening & Developing Partnerships

  • Identify opportunities to grow engagement with our current outreach partners, including development of new consistent service opportunities and systems to support these.

  • Provide administrative, research, systems, and event support to expand partnerships in the South Bay and other strategic locations, including exploring global partnership opportunities alongside the ministry director.

Research

  • Research and establish referral pathways to community resources for our care advocacy programs in support of marginalized individuals in our community.

Event Leadership

  • Provide in-person support at events, acting as a trusted representative of Vintage to answer questions, provide a welcoming environment, and support day-of logistics.

Equipping

  • Support learning event planning and execution, facilitating opportunities for the congregation to learn about our partners, local context and opportunities to live out their faith beyond the walls of the church.

  • Update resources for individuals with additional care needs, including wellness kits, resource guides, and documentation for care advocates.

Advent Season

  • Act as a co-leader with the Director of Social Transformation for all things relating to LoveLA Giving Tree, including preparation and creative planning, volunteer recruitment, communications, in-person volunteer management and support, administration and logistics

Pastoral Care

  • Accompany Director in care-related meetings, providing triage and care pathway support while growing in pastoral care skills and knowledge of referral pathways.

Developmental Goals

  • Successfully recruit, communicate with, and coordinate volunteers for weekly outreach dinners

  • Plan and execute logistical elements for recurring outreach initiatives (e.g., Outreach Dinners, Quarterly Serve Days, Drives, etc.)

  • Serve as Vintage’s on-site representative at outreach events and Sunday promotional initiatives, demonstrating hospitality, clarity of mission, and partnership awareness

  • Lead at least one volunteer team or initiative from start to finish with staff supervision and independently by the end of the program, demonstrating competency in event preparation, day-of leadership, and post-event evaluation

  • Identify and implement one new initiative or service opportunity that strengthens engagement with an existing ministry partner

  • Develop working familiarity with Vintage’s care advocacy pathways and escalation process, helping refine and document referral pathways to local community resources

  • Participate in care meetings and ministry debriefs to grow in pastoral awareness and boundary-setting

Social Transformation Intern Schedule

  • Typical Schedule: Monday to Thursday, with occasional Sundays (flex)

Sarah Chase, Director of
Social Transformation

After spending my adult life in Europe, my husband and I returned to the US in 2024, landing in Los Angeles! Since then, we’ve grown our family to include orange cat brothers and twin girls. Prior to Vintage, I worked across sectors and departments to support vulnerable populations—from refugees and the unhoused to the incarcerated and survivors of human trafficking. I have a deep heart for the marginalized and am passionate about building systems and partnerships that bridge the gap between immediate need and long-term transformation.
